I recently spent part of my day at the Gluten Free Allergy Fest, where I sampled a ton of new gluten free food items. Since we were already Downtown, my mom and I decided to stop by a gluten free restaurant I had heard about that was nearby. I am so glad we did!
Sassy Spoon is an all gluten free restaurant in Minneapolis… you heard right. The ENTIRE restaurant is gluten free. I think it may be one of the only ones in Minneapolis.
This place is is truly a safe haven for Celiacs or those who have gluten intolerance. They serve a lot of healthy and wholesome dishes and have menus for lunch/dinner and even brunch. Because the whole restaurant and kitchen is gluten free, I didn’t even worry about asking the staff questions when I ordered at the counter. I could order whatever I wanted off the menu, and I felt great about it.
Sassy Spoon’s menu items range from pad thai with zoodles, to flatbread pizza, and even smaller dishes like stuffed dates. They also serve brunch items on the weekends such as pancakes, crepes, and waffles. I ended up getting the chicken shawarma entree with cauliflower rice. It was reasonably priced and the portion was pretty big, probably better for dinner than lunch (but hey, I was pretty hungry). The chicken had some really nice moroccan-style spices on it and came served with a nice lemon yogurt sauce for dipping. I was also pleased with the cauliflower rice! I had never had it before, and it complemented the chicken really well.
My mom ordered a chicken curry dish, which she said was also really good. For a small counter-serve restaurant that caters to a gluten free crowd, they do a very nice job. They food choices are excellent and taste great, and the varsity of menu choices caters well to a diverse crowd. We will definitely be back!
